The American Cocker Spaniel Club of Canada as we know it today was formed in the early 1980's.
The Canadian Kennel Club made a motion to combine the three cocker varieties into one breed.
Before this there were four varieties (including black & tan). The club was formed to have a united voice in preparing the submission to CKC in January 1985 regarding this issue. Despite significant lobbying and letter writing from Cocker fanciers nationwide, the change was implemented.
The first club newsletter was published in 1984, and the Club Officers at that time were listed as:
President: Jean Palmer
Treasurer: Susan Harrison
Secretary: Lois Proctor
Directors:
Maxine Norris (BC),
Kathy Nickel (Ontario),
Jean deWolfe (Maritimes).
Other early club members include
Sandra Lex, Kay Nickle, Carol Watson, and Carol and Bert Shute.
The first National Specialty Show was held August 30th 1986.
